About Birdie

Thanks for taking the time to check out my little piece of the internet. My wife and two sons are my entire world, well them and my cat and dog, they are family as well. We live in Texas and I am a computer nerd who is pretty heavy into linux, privacy and security, hence the linux computer aesthetic the site has.

I grew up in Atlanta, in the hood, and did not really have access to plants other than the few that grew where i lived. I certainly didn't have any space to grow anything. It was rough where I grew up and I was sort of isolated because of it. I did NOT get along with my parents at all. Computers became my best friend, and those I looked upto online became my parents. I had no interest in plants at this time. It was a few years before covid that I realized that if the grocery store didn't have food, we could easily die. I also realizd how complex plants were, and learning about them was on par with learing computers. I am still as excited about plants today, as I was when I grew my first, more excited even. I love growing food, flowers, cacti and maybe even a couple plants that are extra fun to consume =) i

I am currently trying to figure out a way to turn my hobby and passion into an income source. I want a small nursery on my property to sell cacti, houseplants, trees or whatever I can make a few dollars on. We're about to try to start a small farm here as well. We have a couple acres which is plenty to get started. It would be cool to do direct to consumer subscriptions where the customer tells us what they want us to grow for them and we bring it to them every week or two. Hopefully if we try enough different ventures, that dont make a lot on their own, when combined should be enough to live on if we are homesteading and living frugally. This site is for you to follow me on that journey. I will try not to let you all down.
